Télé’Son (Kit)

Even though my board is simplified as much as possible, you still need to have a soldering iron. Knowing how to program the Nano isn’t required, but it is necessary if you want a customized result.

In detail

Warning

The module is sold without an enclosure. You must install it properly inside your old phone before powering it, to avoid any risk of a short circuit.

Listening

Listening is usually done through the handset (mono). If your phone has one, you can also plug in the earpiece (also mono). But you can also connect one or more headphones, or even an external amplifier, to the "Line" mini-jack output (stereo). A second jack (mono) labeled "3W" can power a 3-watt speaker at 8 ohms.

Push-button keypad or rotary dial

A Socotel S63 can have either a rotary dial or a push-button keypad. My board includes a small DIP switch bank, and switch #6 selects between rotary dial (switch 6 down) and push-button keypad (switch 6 up).

No ringer

The Télé'Son Kit does not support using the ringer. It would require AC power, which would be too dangerous for hobbyists. If that’s essential to you (your ears?), buy my fully assembled, ready-to-use Télé'Son units instead, as they do support it.

Power

The board can be powered from a wall adapter, batteries, rechargeable cells, or a car cigarette lighter, between 7 and 12 volts, via a standard DC barrel plug (5.5 mm x 2.1 mm, aka "DC5521").
