Set a mic down on a desk and it rolls — one bump of an elbow and it's on the floor. The Mic Rest puts an end to that small problem every sound tech knows.

It started as a custom order from Axeline T, an RF technician, for her own booths. People liked it, so we decided to offer it to everyone.

It works with any stick-format mic, wireless or wired (Shure, Sennheiser, and equivalents). Light and compact, it sits on a console, a stage table, or a rack shelf.

It ships flat, as two pieces that slot together: two seconds to assemble, no tools, no glue.

Additional information

Dimensions: assembled, 70 mm wide by 34 mm tall (2.8" × 1.3"). Flat, two pieces of 70 × 45 mm (2.8" × 1.8").

Material: 4 mm light plywood — poplar or birch depending on what's in stock — laser-cut and engraved. Ships as bare wood, unfinished.

Assembly: the two pieces arrive held in their carrier board by two small tabs — press them out with your thumb. They then slot into each other in a cross-lap joint, engraved face outward. The fit is snug and holds on its own; a dab of wood glue is optional, and the spot for it is engraved on the piece.

Finishing (optional): start by dusting the pieces with a dry cloth, then wipe the edges with denatured or isopropyl alcohol. This step removes the cutting soot: without it, any finish will carry it into the grain and blur the engraving. Then apply a hardwax oil (Osmo, Rubio, Blanchon) or boiled linseed oil with a cloth, and wipe off the excess thoroughly. Avoid pure tung oil, which takes weeks to harden. A matte acrylic spray varnish also works, in two light coats; avoid gloss, which makes the surface slippery. Either way, assemble before you finish: no glue bonds to oiled wood.

Compatibility: every stick-format mic on the market, 35 to 60 mm (1.4" to 2.4") in diameter, wireless (Shure BLX, SLX-D, ULX-D, QLX-D, Sennheiser EW, EW-D, EW-DX, Spectera, etc.) or wired (SM58, Beta 58, and equivalents). Also works with small-diaphragm condensers and shotgun mics.
