I hesitated for a long time before relaunching a clothing line on BigSoundBank. Then, after receiving message after message from boom operators, sound mixers, foley artists, and podcasters who were looking for a piece of clothing that actually spoke their language, I finally went for it. Here are three designs, two garments, and a launch price to kick off the new season on the right foot. Quick note for readers across the Atlantic: the shop ships from France, prices are in euros, and the apparel is made and printed there.
Three designs, three ways to love sound
The first design, "Evolu'son", is a humorous take on human evolution: from the primate all the way to the homo sapiens boom operator, finally able to record the cries of its ancestors. It's a nod to all the sound recordists, boom ops, and location mixers who spend their days holding a boom pole at arm's length. The second, "Larsen" (the French word for audio feedback), shows a microphone topped with a pair of headphones — a clear visual shorthand for podcasters, singers, voice-over artists, and dubbing actors. The third, "Sons du Jour" (literally "Sounds of the Day"), unrolls a full day of onomatopoeia from morning to night. A nice reminder that our daily lives are stitched together with noise.
Garments built to last
I wanted clean, sturdy materials. The t-shirts are made of 100% organic cotton, certified Organic Content Standard 100 and Öko-Tex Standard 100, with a fabric weight of 175 g/m² (about 5.2 oz/yd²). The hoodies are 80% organic cotton and 20% RCS-certified recycled polyester, at 280 g/m² (about 8.3 oz/yd²), with two front pouch pockets and a brushed inner lining to keep you warm in the control room or out in the field. The screen printing is done in France by myself, using water-based ink certified Öko-Tex class 1. No flaky digital transfer that fades after the third wash: real screen-printing, the kind that lasts.
Cuts, sizes, and colors
The t-shirts come in a men's cut and a fitted women's cut, from XS to 3XL for men and up to 2XL for women. Five colors are available: black, royal blue, dark gray, heather gray, and white, with a white or black print depending on the fabric tone. The hoodies are unisex, from XS to 3XL, in black, royal blue, or heather gray. Not every reference stays in stock at all times, so it's worth checking the t-shirts page and the hoodies page on the shop for up-to-date availability.
Launch promo through June 30, 2026
To celebrate the return of the apparel line, I've decided to bring the prices down for a while. The t-shirt drops from €25 to €20, and the hoodie from €45 to €40, through June 30, 2026. It's a tier I won't be able to hold for long, given the cost of raw materials and French manufacturing, but it lets as many people as possible treat themselves, or pick up an original gift for a fellow audio engineer, sound mixer, sound designer, boom op, sound editor, or musician.
Why these clothes exist
Every purchase on the shop directly supports BigSoundBank: roughly 40% of each sale goes back to the project, which is what allows me to keep offering a free, royalty-free sound library, to maintain the Museum of Lost Sounds, to publish blog articles, and to design educational tools. For those of you who enjoy the offbeat tone of these designs, you should know that the comic book "1.65 µHz", which I draw on the side, breathes the same spirit: a warm, humorous look at the people who make sound for a living. I wrote about it in this article when the comic landed in the shop.
So, which of the three designs speaks to you the most: Evolu'son, Larsen, or Sons du Jour? Let me know in the comments — it'll help me decide where to take the next creations.
