Apple launches "Sound Therapy", serving well-being

A Unique Collaboration for Sonic Well-Being

Apple Music and Universal Music Group (UMG) have teamed up to launch “Sound Therapy,” an innovative audio collection designed to enhance listeners’ well-being. This project blends popular songs with specific sound elements to promote focus, relaxation, and restful sleep.

Sound Techniques Backed by Science

Each track in the “Sound Therapy” collection is enriched with binaural beats and colored noise engineered to stimulate precise brain responses. These auditory beats occur when two slightly different frequencies are played in each ear: the brain perceives a third frequency—the difference between the two—which induces a targeted mental state.

For example, gamma waves (30 to 100 Hz) combined with white noise are known to enhance concentration and cognitive function. Theta waves (4 to 8 Hz), paired with gentle sound textures, promote deep relaxation, similar to a meditative state. Finally, delta waves (0.5 to 4 Hz) blended with pink noise (a frequency spectrum balanced for the human ear) are used to foster deep, restorative sleep.

These techniques are grounded in neuroscience, particularly in the field of **brainwave entrainment** through sound. Numerous studies have shown that regular exposure to these frequencies can help stabilize mood, improve working memory, and reduce anxiety. By integrating these sonic tools into well-known songs, Apple Music and UMG make these methods more accessible and enjoyable, while preserving the artistic integrity of the original works.

A Reimagined Musical Selection

The collection offers extended, instrumental, and reworked versions of tracks by acclaimed artists such as Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, Kacey Musgraves, Ludovico Einaudi, AURORA, Jhené Aiko, Chelsea Cutler, and Jeremy Zucker. These adaptations maintain the original artistic essence while incorporating therapeutic sonic elements.

A Research-Driven Initiative

Developed by Sollos, a pioneering company in the field of music and wellness founded within UMG, “Sound Therapy” is based on scientific studies and exclusive audio technologies. The goal is to demonstrate the health benefits of music and sound and make them widely available.

A New Era for Functional Music

“Sound Therapy” reflects a growing trend in which music is used as a therapeutic tool. This initiative underscores the commitment of Apple and UMG to explore the intersections of technology, art, and health, delivering daily audio experiences that are both enjoyable and beneficial.
